History

Columbia Lakes has been a premier golf facility since its inception in 1973. Two words tell the discriminating golfer just about everything they need to know about Columbia Lakes in terms of golf-worthiness: Tom Fazio.

He's achieved just about everything possible in his stellar career, dozens of highly rated golf courses, millionaire club owners clamoring for his service, plus the regularly applied title of America's Greatest Living Architect.

Along with the king of golf course architects, we've hosted MLB's strikeout king (Nolan Ryan), a U.S. president (George W. Bush) and the NFL's Carolina Panthers.

Columbia Lakes has hosted the Southern Texas PGA Championships; Collegiate championships for the South West Conference, and currently counts the Rice University golf team as welcome regulars. Rice coach Drew Scott likes the set-up of this course as a tune-up for his team.

World renown golf instructors that have called Columbia Lakes home include our former School of Golf instructor Kathy Whitworth, as well as Mark Steinbower and "The Golf Doctor" Charlie Epps. Bob Putt, a living legend himself, currently holds court here at Columbia Lakes.
